Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait
"Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno's Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait is not a typical documentary film. In it, you won't see footage from the French footballer's greatest games. You won't hear other footballers talking about his legacy either. You also won't see Zidane's fans worshiping their idol. Instead, you would see ninety minutes of pure magic.
The entire film is actually a single game of football - Real Madrid vs. Villareal, played in front of 80,000 fans at the legendary Santiago Bernabeu stadium on April 23, 2005. During the game, 17 strategically positioned movie cameras, under the supervision of cinematographer Darius Khnodji (Delicatessen; Seven; My Blueberry Nights), followed the French superstar. That is it."
-Excerpt from Blu-Ray.com
"Mogwai's Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait doesn't have much in the way of catchy melodies, and its tracks tend to blend into each other — but these are precisely the reasons why this score is so effective. Droning, hypnotic, but subtly tense, this album is about crafting and sustaining a mood, even more so than the band's collaboration with Clint Mansell on the music for The Fountain. It's understandable why fans expecting another Young Team or even Mr. Beast might find Zidane too monochromatic: on tracks such as "Black Spider," Mogwai shift their famously wide-ranging dynamics into neutral, concentrating on the band's shimmering, introspective side; it's only toward the end of the over 20-minute hidden track tacked onto "Black Spider 2" that Mogwai approach heavier territory. Meanwhile, the moody piano and guitar themes repeat on "Half Time" and "Time and a Half," giving the score a unity that could seem monotonous separated from the film's context. However, while most of Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait is the musical equivalent of a faint but still distinct shadow, several tracks are standouts, albeit subtle ones. "Wake Up and Go Berserk" — which follows in the footsteps of other ironically named Mogwai works like Rock Action and Happy Songs for Happy People — is a thing of bleak beauty, mingling vapor-trail electric guitar textures with looping acoustic guitar melodies. Likewise, "7:25" and "I Do Have Weapons" are also sublimely poignant, without ever feeling like they're pandering. It's easy and true enough to say that this album will appeal mostly to Mogwai diehards, but it's such a quietly accomplished musical portrait of one of soccer's most complex and controversial personalities that Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait could very well add some soundtrack buffs and sports aficionados to the band's ranks of fans."

Busy Week Round Up
The Sounders looked to be favorites going into this year's Community Shield match as the home team and all. But we fucked up giving Portland a 1-0 away win that was worth it's weight in animal semen.

Starting to look festive wouldn't you say?
Celebrated Galen's B-Day over the weekend. The night concluded with a overnight at the Chilton's home away from home. I had the privilege of top bunk. I snapped this pic of the Royalty like bunk across the way. Slept like a rock.
Got an invite to a Secret Supper at the most fine dining in all of Burien; the Low's home. This was a St. Patrick's dinner complete with Smithwick's, Harp Lager, and Guinness. Need thou not be afraid, corn beef and cabbage with all the necessary counterparts joined the mix. What an amazing meal.
The friday night Pub Crawl. Very fun. Beer and pizza teamed friends and family. Thank you God.

Supreme X TNF
Pullovers have been my favorite cousin in the family of lightweight jackets. Supreme contacted That's Bone specifically asking us what this season's partnership should include. Selflessly we told them to team with The North Face to create the "Expedition Pullover". Three classic Supreme stylings are offered and That's Bone is very blessed to have given them the idea.
Editor's Note: None of the above is true in the least bit except for the name "Expedition Pullover".
